What is transformer balance capacity for solar?

Under KSERC Renewable Energy and Net Metering Regulations 2020, Regulation 14(2), the total renewable capacity connected to a distribution transformer may not exceed 90% of its rating. KSEB applies a further 90% margin. Balance capacity is that allowed figure minus feasibility already issued and systems already grid connected.

What if my transformer shows zero balance?

About this tool

Before KSEB grants feasibility for a rooftop solar net metering connection, the distribution transformer (DTR) serving your premises must have spare capacity. Under Regulation 14(2) of the KSERC Renewable Energy and Net Metering Regulations, 2020, the total renewable capacity connected to a transformer cannot exceed 90% of its rating, and KSEB keeps a further 10% margin. This page shows that balance capacity for every transformer in a KSEB section, for any district in Kerala, using the data KSEB publishes.

How is balance calculated?: Allowed capacity is 90% of 90% of the transformer's kVA rating, rounded down. Balance is the allowed capacity minus feasibility already issued and systems already grid connected. This is KSEB's own formula.
How often is it updated?: Each visit fetches the latest figures KSEB has published. The "as on" time shown is KSEB's own timestamp.
My transformer shows zero or very little balance. What now?: New feasibility is unlikely until capacity frees up or KSEB augments the transformer. Pin the transformer here and check back periodically, and confirm with your KSEB section office before applying.
